The weather was clear, bright, with winds gusting playfully at the
snapping banner and streamers. We had just shy of thirty guests
including family, friends, and Freeholders come to take part in the
joining of these two fine Heathens in holy matrimony. With our Women's
guild leader Freydis and our own Caitlyn to assist her, Mary Joy
awaited in the bridal enclosure for the call of the grooms party.

With no less a warrior than our own Tyrbold winner Graeme Barber at his
side, Ken asked for the hand of Mary Joy, offering a fine necklace of
fine amber beads as hand-geld, with further morning gifts to follow.
After inspection, Mary Joy found these gifts worthy, and consented to
make marriage oaths with Ken before the guests. Giving her own tokens
of love in a necklace of carved jade, Mary Joy and Ken pledged their
love before all.

Their love pledged, it was time to pledge their troth. Mary Joy and Ken
took strong oaths upon the rings, and placed them upon each others
hands. Now man and wife, it was time to take on the responsibilities.
Ken surrendered to Mary Joy the old sword with which he defended the
hearth of his mother, for his duty now is to his wife. Mary Joy
accepted the sword in trust for his fine sons, and gave to him a new
sword with which she bade him defend his new wife and family. Ken took
up the keys of his house, and gave their keeping to Mary Joy, who
henceforth will keep his house and chattels.

At the feast that followed, each bound themselves to each other with
cords marked with the nine noble virtues done in runes, and as I joined
their hands and cords together, they raised the horn, each to the other
as man and wife. Thanks to all the Heathens from the Island, the North,
the lower mainland in all its odd shaped corners who came out to show
Ken and Mary Joy such a wonderful welcome as a newlywed couple in our
community. Thanks especially to Freydis who helped me perform the
ceremony.

Praise be to Mother Frigga, who not only graced our
lantern with the warmth and presence of her heathfire at the joining of
two heathens, but who took this day the oath of Mary Joy who swore
Fultrui to Frigga.
