Anyone else observing Lent?
From dust you came and from dust you shall return! Greetings fellow YS'ers!
I use the 40 days of lent to ground & center..... it's an important time for me. I also usually land a few gigs playing flute at various churches; a formal 'Service of Darkness' on Good Friday is always my favorite. (It's in such a beautiful church; 50's modern with lots of marble.)
Back to my topic
I do try to give up something for Lent - it's never very severe as I tend to be quite gentle with myself; this year I'm giving up Facebook and other social networks for 40 days. I'm going to use my spare time to contemplate.

(I blogged about Lent last year if anyone want's to read my rambles: http://mattersofgrace.blogspot.com/2010/02/wednesdays-ashes.html

I will Sak. Like you, it won't be huge. I won't give up FB, I work in my home and that is one of my few means of entertainment. Not a big tv watcher.
Not sure what I'll do yet.

I observe Lent, aprtly out of support for my Catholic wife and partly because I think it a valuable practice. I'm giving up bourbon this year. It is not a huge sacrifice on my part, but I do love my simple pleasures.

That's a thought. I could give up the wine. Not a huge sacrifice, but one that will make me think about why I'm NOT gonna get up and go get a glass while relaxing.
While not a "sacrifice", it will make me contemplate.

Born in Louisiana, Sister, Niece and Nephew living there most of their lives... I have NEVER heard of "cajun cracklins".

pretty much limited to Arcadiana (Lafayette to Beaux Bridge) pork cracklings but not what you get in the convenience store
chunks of meat still on them-spiced with a dry pepper spice-made by meat markets and boudin shops
its deep cajun not a creole thing

Hey, I'm not fat. I'm in shape. Afterall round is a shape.
Back to the subject of this topic. No, I won't be giving up anythig for Lent. I haven't done so since 2000. When I turned away from Christianity. So for me would imho make me a hypocrite.
