Gita Discussion

The "Bhagavad-Gita" is considered to be a
doctrine of universal truth; it covers Samkhya (1 of the 6 main branches of Indian philosophy) as well as all aspects of Yoga.

Has anyone else read it? What are your favorite passages/lessons? (Though I'm not Hindu -unless we consider everyone to be Hindu...another discussion- I've always been drawn to the teachings of this wonderful portion of the Mahabharata)

I'm not Hindu either; I am about as a fundy a Christian as you can get; but consider the Gita a primary example that universal truths can be found outside the Holy Writ.

Whats is your opinion of the Legend of Bagger Vance?

The movie wasn't as good as it could have been, considering it had Will Smith.

I did like Sita Sings the Blues (intersperses events from the Ramayana with the artist's personal story) But that's a topic for another thread

If you hadn't guessed Bagger Vance is a simplified telling of the Gita told in terms of golf and pre WII South

Tradition says Krishna was black or midnight blue, as much of Hindu folk are today.

The Gita is a profound and inspirational work.

I have heard that, in Indian iconography, blue symbolizes passion; perhaps that is too broad of a notion. I think it can also mean 'depth of character' and/or someone who fights evil.

Some people seem to translate the name to mean 'dark'; however I do not believe that translation comes from the Gita. My limited understanding is that, in the Gita, the name Krishna means attraction and/or attractive.

I agree.

In Shivji Puran, it has been written that Gods control human beings so that they(Humans) may not become equal to Gods.
It means we humans have capability to become equal to god and gods are also like us. In Bible, "Let us create man in our image".
